Final Preparations Before Trial of Marshfield Man Accused of Trying to Kill Unborn Child Begins

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 -- 9:03 AM

-Lawyers argued about a witness involved in the case of a Marshfield man who tried to kill his unborn child.

Back in September, Tyler Ress, age 23, punched a 28-year-old pregnant Marshfield woman multiple times to try and make her miscarry. He then doused her in gasoline, threatening to light her on fire. Ress and his victim have had several instances of violence against one another.

Ress has seven total charges filed against him. They are 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, strangulation and suffocation, false imprisonment, abortion of unborn child by another, battery, disorderly conduct, and contact after domestic abuse arrest.

The victim, the women he hurt and mother of his child, is supposed to be a witness in the trial for the prosecutors. However, the defense argued that they want to have the victim psychologically evaluated and would need to adjourn the trial that starts next week to do so. The court agreed to have her examined, but will not postpone the trial.

Some other testimony was found admissible as well.

Ress is currently being held in the Wood County Jail on a $10,000 bond and if convicted he could face 50 years in prison. His trial begins Tuesday of next week.
