-It’s National FFA Week and FFA members at the Granton School District are celebrating with different activities.

I spoke with Granton’s Interim Administrator, James Kuchta, and most of the Granton FFA’s Officer Team including Lizzy Reinart, Granton FFA Secretary; Makenzie Muraski, Granton FFA Vice-President; Alexis Pongratz, Granton FFA Reporter; and Abby Woller, Granton FFA Secretary.  They discussed FFA Week activities including ones they’re involved with.

Mr. Kuchta:  “Our officers are going to talk about FFA Week and activities they are specifically involved with.”

Lizzy:  “I have my own SAE, which is our Elementary Ag Education Program.  So, I go down to the Elementary classrooms and teach them about agriculture in our community, outside of our community, leadership and FFA opportunities they’ll be able to be involved in once they reach middle and high school.”

Makenzie:  “My SAE is floriculture.  Basically, I make a bunch of floral arrangements and I have them around my house.  And then I’m the captain of our Floriculture Team.  So, that will be starting up here soon.  We actually made it to state, not last year, but the year before.  So, hopefully this year we do well again.”

Alexis:  “The SAE I’m working on was Home and Community Development.  We organized Mask Selling Nights for all of our members and students to have masks to wear around for school.  And next month, we plan on making dog toys for the Humane Society.  On March 15th, we’re having an Etiquette Dinner to teach people how to use utensils properly.”

Abby:  “My SAE is Fruit Production.  So, basically I take charge of the apple orchard that is on school grounds.  I make sure that it’s maintained properly and cared for.  I also arrange picking and cleaning nights.  When I go up to prune the trees, I ask members to help, so I’m in charge of the orchard.”

Mr. Kuchta:  “Can you each discuss an activity FFA is doing for FFA Week?”

Makenzie:  “Monday, the dress up day was Pajama Day and then our lunch activity was the egg drop.  So, we had middle school and high school members go into the gym during lunch and participate in the egg drop.  And there were two winners from middle and high school and they received a prize.”

Lizzy:  “Tuesday is Spirit Day, so everybody will be wearing FFA apparel or blue and gold to represent FFA.  And we’re having a mini-pie eating contest during lunch, so I’m very excited to see how that goes.”

Abby:  “Wednesday is wear Disney apparel or dress like your favorite character.  The lunch activity is the Splatter Ice Cream Sundae.  There’s two people and one person is scooping the ice cream on top of the ladder and doing the chocolate sauce and all the other toppings.  And another person is laying on the ground on a tarp with a plate on their chest and we’re having a competition to see who can make the best Sunday.”

Alexis:  “Thursday’s dress up day is Throwback Thursday and the lunch activity during lunch is blindfolded drawing.  You have two people per class and you draw things blindfolded and whoever has the best drawing wins a prize.”

Mr. Kuchta:  “And friday we have a virtual learning day this week.”
