Neillsville City Council Leery About Approving Receiver

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013 -- 8:56 AM

-The Neillsville City Council was leery about approving a receiver for the Christie building at their Tuesday Meeting.

A contractor/construction worker from Medford was chosen to be the receiver for the building. A receiver is an indifferent party that takes all responsibility for the building. John Brauns, the receiver, will be fixing the building and the cost is expected to be close to 14,000 dollars.

However the building still belongs to the owners and once it's fixed, at the cost of the city, they could decide to re-use the building or sell it to someone.

If that happens, a lean will be put on the building, which would allow the city to get its money back, but Clark County would get first dibs due to the large amount of back taxes. If it's sold, it must be sold at fair market value plus the cost of repairs if they're not done at that point.

At this point a raze order could be administered on the building instead of appointing a receiver, but many concerned citizens don?t want that to happen nor does the common council.
