Fire Danger is Very High

Thursday, May 16th, 2013 -- 10:02 AM

-Fire Danger is very high in Central Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has suspended all burning permits statewide because of dry, windy, and warm conditions.

The ban is expected to continue until the weather changes as current conditions have left our area prime for brush fires right now.

Besides the strong winds, warm weather, and a lot of dry brush causing the high fire danger, last year?s warm and dry summer and fall is still having an impact.

All the materials that were on the ground before the winter came, brush, twigs, etc., they had a good chance to dry out. Even though they were covered with snow when winter arrived, the snow doesn't really moisten them, it melts and they are still dry.

You should also keep a close eye on your grill because wind can pick up embers and start a fire in seconds.
