Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 -- 8:14 AM

-A Marshfield man has been charged with identity theft.

46-year-old Lonnie Mesar allegedly used an online messenger program to get strangers to call his former girlfriend.

Mesar?s ex-girlfriend told authorities that she was receiving calls from a man she didn?t know and suspected her Mesar was behind it.

Authorities contacted the man who said the victim had contacted him via Yahoo! Messenger and asked him to call. Authorities found the account with the victim?s name, birthday, and a photograph.

When authorities confronted Mesar about it, he admitted to them that he used his ex-girlfriend?s information and contacted men telling them to call her. He said he portrayed his ex as a ?whore? in order to get men to call her.

During the initial appearance on Monday, a 5,000 dollar signature bond was set.

Mesar has charges of theft of an identity in order to do harm to a person?s reputation and violating a restraining order filed against him. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 6.5 years in prison.
