Marshfield High School Places High with AP Program

Thursday, April 18th, 2013 -- 9:46 AM

(WDLB)-Marshfield High School's Advanced Placement program continues to outshine others in the state.

The school's A-P program is once again number one in Wisconsin, according to the annual High School Challenge put out by the Washington Post. And among the 19-hundred programs analyzed, Superintendent Peg Geegan says Marshfield's A-P program ranked 372nd in the nation as a whole.

"The rankings look specifically at the number of Seniors who've participated in college level course work," said Peg. "For us that would reflect their participation in the advanced placement program; taking the test that would qualify for advanced placement. They look at the number of Seniors who have graduated, who've at least taken one AP test during their High School Career."

The rankings are calculated by dividing the number of A-P tests given by the number of graduating seniors, which reveals the level of commitment a high school has to preparing its students for college.

Last year, Marshfield offered A-P tests in 28 subjects, and Geegan says 402 students took one-thousand-172 exams, meaning 40-percent of graduates took at least one A-P exam in high school, and scored three or better. That compares with the national average of 20-percent.

"So when you consider there are 22,000 High Schools in the state of Wisconsin, we're in a very elite group for how well our students are achieving."

Congratulations to the Marshfield High School on their performance and thanks to WDLB for the story.
