Possible Water Rate Increase for Neillsville

Thursday, April 11th, 2013 -- 9:10 AM

-The City of Neillsville may soon see another water rate increase as several upcoming projects were discussed during the Public Works portion of the Tuesday Neillsville City Council Meeting.

A few projects on the radar include water meter replacements, which are being mandated by the DNR, which will cost around 224,000 dollars. The city is going to replace a few bigger meters this year to get ahead of the project and will continue the project as the year?s progress. The DNR has said that 120 meters must be replaced per year.

Also, two big water main replacement projects will need to be done. The two locations include Grand Avenue and Division Street around the fairgrounds, which will be done around 2014 and 2017, with a cost of 50,000 dollars and 119,000 dollars.

Another item brought up, looking long term, is the city is considering buying land to drill new wells. The wells are fine for now, but they are lower and if this summer is anything like the last, it would cause problems.

For the time being, the council approved to move forward with a water rate increase study that will cost no more than 5,000 dollars.
