Neillsville City Council Approves Sierra Club Initiative

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 -- 8:17 AM

-It was a relatively quiet night for the Neillsville City Council at their Tuesday meeting.

The one item of new business on the common council agenda was the discussion, and/or approval, of the Sierra?s Club Initiative to straighten out transportation in the state of Wisconsin.

The Sierra Club is an environmental group that works to protect natural resources and the planet.

This initiative is something that was sent to municipal leaders all over the state asking them to support reforming 'Wisconsin's' transportation fund and reprioritize by cutting wasteful spending on unnecessary highway projects.

What they are referring to is Governor Walker?s alleged misuse of the transportation funds and taking money from the transportation department and putting it in the general fund to use for other purposes. A couple statistics the club threw out included 1100 bridges being in structurally deficient and 43% of Wisconsin roads being classified as ?less than good.?

The Neillsville City Council unanimously approved Mayor Mabie to sign the Statement of Support provided by the Sierra Club.
