UPDATE: Bicyclist Killed in Wisconsin Rapids

Monday, April 8th, 2013 -- 8:30 AM

-The name of the bicyclist killed in Wisconsin Rapids has been released.

According to the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, the accident occurred around 12:30 at 8th Street South and Pepper Avenue on Saturday.

The bicyclist, 41-year-old Shawn Hill, was transported to Riverview Hospital by ambulance, but his injuries proved to be too severe and he died at the hospital.

The driver, 75-year-old Emil Taschner, was not injured.

The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department using witness statements and evidence of the scene have pieced together a theory on how the accident happened. Police say Hill was westbound on the sidewalk on Pepper Avenue, crossed into the intersection, and was struck by Taschner.

The intersection has stop-lights and a pedestrian ?walk? signal. However, the ?walk? button had not been pressed. Taschner was at a red light, but the light was at the end of its cycle and when Taschner hit Hill, the light was green.

The accident is still under investigation, but it has been determined that alcohol and speed were not factor in the accident. As of now, it is unclear as to whether or not charges will be filed.
