Greenwood Awarded Transportation Economic Assistance Grant

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013 -- 8:43 AM

-The City of Greenwood will be awarded a Transportation Economic Assistance Grant.

Governor Scott Walker announced Tuesday that a 140,000 dollar TEA grant will be given to Greenwood to assist with the construction of a municipal street as well as intersection improvements.

The street will be known as Greenway Boulevard and it will extend 1200 feet from Division Street to Begley Street which will allow safe access to a new 9.2 million dollar manufacturing facility, being built in Greenwood?s eastside industrial park, known as Dubay Biofuels.

Dubay Biofuels will convert whey permeate, a waste byproduct of cheese-making, into cattle feed and ethanol energy.

The TEA project will create 28 direct jobs at the company and support another 71 jobs.

The total cost of the project will cost 410,000 dollars, meaning the grant is 34% of the total cost, and the remainder is being provided by the city.

The project will start this Spring and is expected to be done by the Fall of this year.
