Rejuvenation Project for Neillsville's Downtown, Part 1

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013 -- 8:15 AM

-The City of Neillsville is looking to rejuvenate the downtown area.

A Lunch-N-Learn session, sponsored by the Neillsville Chamber of Commerce and the UW-Extension, was held on Monday at the Clark County Courthouse.

A handful of business owners, chamber members, and other involved in various committees attended the session to learn about the First Impressions program.

Amy Jahnke, interim CNRED Educator of Clark County, gave an overview of the First Impressions initiative. Amy said the program was started by Andy Lewis and James Schneider and that ?It?s a tool that helps communities assess community development opportunities and to develop strategies for community improvement.?

For this program, a group of residents in Neillsville would go to a city similar to Neillsville, preferably a couple counties away, and take notes and make observations of a city?s downtown area. The items discussed should include the good and the bad.

On the reverse side, that same city would do the same thing for Neillsville. They would then give Neillsville a report on what they thought of Neillsville?s downtown. It would provide the city with an unbiased look at the downtown area of the City of Neillsville.

Neillsville could then use that information to make improvements to the downtown area.
