Neillsville's State of the City Address

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 -- 11:38 AM

-Neillsville's 1st State of the City Address from Mayor Steve Mabie:

As a review of my first year as mayor of Neillsville, I will initiate the City of Neillsville?s first State of the City Address.

I am pleased to report the city continues to operate as an efficient, smooth, well-maintained and safe community of which I am very proud. Along with my very responsible common council members, we worked out a budget that would allow us to provide our citizens a pleasant place to live and raise a family, with the availability of a fine school district and medical facility.

I listened to the need expressed by our city clerk, resulting in the process to build a new city website. This will enable us to present a more inviting, efficient website, using today?s technology for the future.

Also recognizing the need for better communication, I authorized the purchase of new audio visual equipment in the council room for a much needed upgrade, which will be online soon. We acknowledge the financial benefit of these upgrades to the benevolent Listeman Foundation.

We have an aggressive street and sewer upgrade planned for this summer which continues Neillsville?s forward approach to having a street and infrastructure system that meets or exceeds today?s standards.

We have seen a revitalization of our beautiful Listeman Arboretum. The Parks and Recreation Department, along with generous help from area citizens, is making a positive difference to this beautiful city park.

Our eye is on business and jobs, working with the Neillsville Area Chamber of Commerce and involved community minded city committees. I expect positive trends going forward for Neillsville?s greater good.

We face challenges in the New Year to be sure. Protecting our water supply is a priority, and we are working with the Mathy Company to ensure that our wells remain safe.

I am confident with cooperation and reasonable planning, Neillsville will continue to be a great place to live.
