Stanley Prison Inmate Sentenced for Attempted Escape

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 -- 8:05 AM

-One of the Stanley Prison inmates involved in an attempted escape back in 2010 was sentenced for his crimes in Chippewa County Court.

In January of 2010, Eddie Evans, age 59, Jimmy Baldwin, age 34, and Henry Spencer, age 27, had release documents forged to get early releases. Evans and Baldwin did escape, but were caught a few days later. Spencer was caught before he was released.

Henry Spencer was sentenced on Friday for his part in the crime. It?s been a wild ride for Spencer regarding his court proceedings.

Initially, all three men were scheduled to have a jury trial at the same time, but later Evans and Baldwin had the case, and charges, against them dropped without prejudice and only Spencer was set to have a trial for his part in the scheme at the beginning of February.

Later, when the charges were refilled against the other two men, Spencer still had his jury trial at the beginning of February, but it had recently been changed to coincide with Evans and Baldwins during March. Finally, a plea was reached last week.

The judge added a year-and-a-half onto the sentence Spencer is already serving for an armed robbery.
