Referendum Discussed at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting

Thursday, January 17th, 2013 -- 8:19 AM

-Remodeling designs and adding a referendum to the spring elections was approved at the Owen-Withee School Board Meeting on Monday.

The Board reviewed the design plan created by Somerville Architects that includes improvements to the Tech Ed/Ag Ed area and gymnasium, additions of a cafeteria/auditorium and science facilities and the acquisition of furniture, fixtures and equipment for the improved/added spaces. The Board approved the design on a 7-0 vote.

The Board reviewed several aspects that will impact the District as a result of a referendum including student enrollment, tax levy, property valuation, bond rates, etc.

After much discussion, the Board approved a referendum question that will be:

?BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the School District of Owen-Withee, Clark and Taylor Counties, Wisconsin that there shall be issued pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $8,000,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of constructing additions to and various remodeling and improvement projects at the District building and site including projects to improve Tech Ed/Ag Ed facilities, and gymnasium; add cafeteria/auditorium and science facilities; and acquiring furniture, fixtures and equipment.?

The referendum will be part of the April 2, 2013 general election.
