Neillsville School District Invaded By the Flu

Thursday, January 10th, 2013 -- 8:25 AM

-The Neillsville School District has been hit hard by the flu.

The district, with roughly 1,000 students enrolled, is doing everything it can to combat the nasty bug. More than 200 students were sent home or were absent from school on Wednesday. Some students came to school already sick and were sent home.

An automated phone call was sent out on Monday to parents and e-mails have been sent as well, asking parents to keep their children home if they are showing signs of either the respiratory or stomach flu.

A message, from the school nurse, on the school?s website asks the same thing and even gives a location for a vaccination.

The district is urging parents to keep their children home from school if they show respiratory flu symptoms like headache, sore throat with or without fever. The district also wants parents to keep their children home from school until they have gone a full 24 hours without vomiting, coming down with a fever, or having diarrhea without taking Tylenol, Advil, or Ibuprofen.

Cleaning crews at the school are working long hours, sterilizing every surface in the school to help fight the virus.
