NEW INFO: Osseo-Fairchild Superintendent Found Dead

Thursday, November 29th, 2012 -- 12:36 PM

-The Osseo-Fairchild School District Dennis Geissler was found dead in his home.

Geissler, age 58, was found dead Wednesday in his lake home near Chetek. His body was found in a car in a closed garage.

Investigators say his death appears to have been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. His body was discovered on Wednesday after Osseo-Fairchild Middle/High School Principal Bill Tourdot went to check on him. Geissler apparently called in sick on Tuesday.

Tourdot said, "Mr. Geissler will be missed by everyone in the district. He stepped into the position during some challenging times for the district and became a calming voice within our schools. He was a great friend to public education in this district and throughout his career."

Grief counselors have been made available for the district's staff and students within the schools and in the community. Other districts have offered counselor?s support as well.

Tourdot said the district will be following the district's crisis plan for grief counseling and for day-to-day school operations and school administrators will be managing day-to-day school business under the direction of the Osseo-Fairchild School Board.

Osseo-Fairchild School Board President Barry Kostka said, "Our hearts go out to his wife, Patty, and the rest of his family. May peace be with Mr. Geissler, his family, friends and co-workers as we process this loss."

Geissler became the Osseo-Fairchild superintendent in July, 2011 after previously working as a principal and superintendent in the Colfax School District and as a teacher and principal in the McFarland School District.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department is handling details about Geissler's death.
