Bids Accepted at Neillsville City Council Meeting

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 -- 8:40 AM

-Two old and unused dump trucks were sold at Neillsville?s City Council Meeting Tuesday evening.

At the November 13th meeting, Dave Flynn, Director of Public Works, came before the council with three bids for a 1975 and 1980 C-60 Chevy Dump Trucks. Two bids had come from local residents interested in the trucks, while a third came from a salvage yard.

At the last meeting, Dave did not tell the council how much the bid from the salvage yard was, but did inform them that there was a significant difference between that bid and the one from the other two individuals.

The council then decided to send a letter to the three interested asking them to rebid and informing them that it would be only the three of them biding. No one else could jump in at this point.

Shaw?s Wrecking was the only one of the three that entered a bid again, which turned out to be 2400 dollars for each truck. The difference between Shaw?s bid and the other two residents was close to 1800 dollars. The board unanimously accepted the bids.

Dave did note that, in the future, they would try to avoid a situation like this again as there was some disappointment from the other parties that they had to bid on the trucks again. However, Dave said he did it this way this time because of the large difference in bids.

A council member did point out, however, that they do have the right to accept or reject any bid.
