Marshfield Men Plead Not Guilty to Death of Marshfield Woman

Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 -- 8:29 AM

-Two Marshfield men have entered a plea of not guilty regarding the death of a Marshfield woman.

Back in August, Kayla Vanderwyst, age 20, was found dead in her home. An autopsy was performed and authorities determined that she had died of a heroin overdose.

After an investigation, authorities found probable cause that Justin Drinka, age 22, and Trenton Blume, age 23, had played a role in her death. Authorities say that Drinka, Blume, and Vanderwyst drove together and bought the heroin.

A Marshfield detective was questioned by prosecutor Craig Lambert and the defendants attorney?s Sandra Zenor and Gary Kryshak. The detective had said that he had found evidence of drug use when he discovered Vanderwyst?s body.

Marshfield Detective Kevin Hamill was questioned and said he had talked with Drinka. Drinka admitted to him that they had all used drugs and said he knew Vanderwyst had died because of an overdose.

Blume had admitted to the detective that he was the one that drove all of them to purchase the drugs.

Both men are being charged with 1st degree reckless homicide and are being held in the Wood County jail on a 10,000 dollar cash bond.

They will appear in court again in January.
