-The $1 million Strategic Blight Elimination Program was announced on May 31 of this year in a joint press release from the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority.Under the program, DFI and the Wisconsin Department of Justice each committed $500,000 in funds received in the National Mortgage Settlement to be made available to Wisconsin communities for the demolition of vacant, abandoned or blighted residential housing units.
A local community will receive the benefits of those funds. The City of Granton will have a blighted area removed near the C store today.
The total of removing the project comes to 38,778 dollars, which will cost Granton nothing due to the funds received.
The City of Granton will have a brief ceremony today when the property is demolished.
