Friday, November 23rd, 2012 -- 10:20 AM
Wisconsin bear hunters have registered the second highest number of black bears on record this year.According to the state's natural resources department, more than 4,400 were harvested during the 2012 season. That's short of the 5,133 bears killed in 2010.
Bear hunters have until midnight on December 10 to apply for a harvest permit for the 2013 hunting season, or preference point for future years. The number of permits available for the 2013 black bear hunt has not yet been determined.
The 2013 bear season begins September 4 and runs through October 8.
