Chamber of Commerce Items Discussed at Recent Neillsville City Council Meeting

Monday, November 19th, 2012 -- 8:20 AM

-Deanna Heiman, Neillsville Chamber of Commerce Director, made a report to the Neillsville City Council during the Tuesday meeting.

Deanna briefly went over the Chamber?s use of the Sniteman Town Square Park for the Christmas Tree Lighting on December 1st. She simply asked for their support on the proposal, which they did approve.

Deanna also gave a basic overview of the Shop Local 30 Campaign data.

The event was held back in September and the purpose, for those that signed up, was to get people to shop for items in their community, Neillsville, and record what they bought, where, and if they had to go outside of Neillsville or shop online to get it.

The data revealed that, during the month of September, $8,865 dollars were spent outside of the city. The top three places that money was spent were Marshfield, Eau Claire, and online sites.

The primary reasons that people leave Neillsville to shop were very surprising. They were medical visits, leisure time, and for groceries.

These are consistent with the data as to what people mostly bought outside of Neillsville. Those items included groceries, clothing, and hardware.

Deanna is going to sit down and go over the data even more to identify trends and she will also meet with local retail stores and go over the good comments they received as well as the constructive criticism. The Chamber is also going to consider doing this type of survey on an annual basis.
