-The Marshfield man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, and mother of his child, made an appearance in Wood County Court on Monday.Gabriel Campos allegedly murdered Maise McCoullough, age 18 of Marshfield, back in September. Campos is currently being held in the Wood County Jail on a 5 million dollar cash bond.
Campos appeared with his attorney's Kate Frigo and David Dickmann. Craig Lambert appeared for the State of Wisconsin.
Jason Parks, an officer in Marshfield, was sworn in and questioned. He informed the court that he wasdispatched to McCullough's home with the report of a female being deceased in the bathtub.
When he arrived, he noticed a brown substance, which appeared to be blood, splattered on the floors and walls in the bathroom and foot impressions in the hallway and kitchen.
Parks then went on to explain that Michelle Lang, Campos' mother, had found McCoullough's body. McCoullough had numerous small cuts on her hands, a large one on her neck, and a large stab wound in her back. The coroner had determined the cut to her neck had killed her.
Campos' father had said that his son had been distraught that day. McCoullough had recently ended her relationship with Campos. At one point, Campos said he was "sorry" and he "didn't mean for anything like this to happen." Their child is currently in the custody of his grandparents.
Campos had called the police and turned himself in at a Wisconsin Rapids Hotel.
Judge Todd Wolf found that there was probable cause and a felony was committed and the defendant committed it so the court proceedings will continue.
