Thanksgiving in Wisconsin A Little Less Expensive

Friday, November 9th, 2012 -- 8:37 AM

-Wisconsin shoppers can expect Thanksgiving dinner to be a little less expensive this year.

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau says the average price of a traditional Thanksgiving meal this year is just under $49. That's a savings of about $1.30, or 3%, from last year.

It's also 60 cents cheaper than the national average.

Wisconsin's main savings are in the cost of the turkey. The bureau says a 16-pound turkey will average $22.72 this year, whereas last year it would have cost 48 cents more.

The bureau calculates the average cost of a dinner for 10, which would include turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and cranberries.

Bureau spokesman Casey Langan notes that the home-cooked meal works out to less than $5 per person, cheaper than a typical trip through a drive-thru.
