Local School Districts Score Well in Accountability Ratings

Thursday, November 8th, 2012 -- 8:59 AM

-Many local schools have received their first report cards regarding their School Accountability Ratings.

All of the local school districts scored very well. Neillsville had a score of 70.8 for the elementary and 56.4 for the middle/high school. Granton had a score of 62.8 for the elementary and did not receive a score for the high school due to the small amount of high school students at Granton.

Loyal had a score of 63.6 for the elementary, 68.4 for the jr. high, and 70.3 for the high school. Greenwood has a score of 68.7 for the elementary and 72.1 for the high school. Owen-Withee had a score of 72 for the elementary, 68.3 for the jr. high, and 66.6 for the high school.

Almost all of the school?s scores fall into the meets expectations range.

All though the numbers may seem worrisome to most people, several of the local district administrators have commented that the students and districts are testing just as well if not better under this system compared to the old one.

It?s also very easy for these scores to be manipulated by uncontrollable factors. Some examples include student growth, which can fluctuate in any district, and test participation, which can count against a school if a couple students are absent from testing.

Citizens should keep in mind that they should not compare one district to another based solely on these scores. And most of all don?t think things have drastically changed for your district, or your children, based on these scores.
