Wausau Man Hit by Wausau Patrol Car

Thursday, November 1st, 2012 -- 8:25 AM

-A Wausau man was hit by a Wausau Police Department Patrol Vehicle.

On October 30, just before 10:00pm, Marathon County Sheriff?s Department responded to North 17th Avenue near the east Shopko entrance to investigate a collision between a fully marked Wausau Police Department patrol vehicle and a pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation reveals the patrol car was travelling southbound on 17th Avenue and was operating in the inner lane of the two southbound lanes of traffic. The pedestrian, an 89 year old Wausau male, was walking in the lane of traffic.

The pedestrian male was transported to Wausau Aspirus Hospital and his condition was reported as being critical.

The patrol car was travelling less than the posted speed limit and was aligned properly within its lane of traffic and was being operated in a proper and safe manner.

Other contributing factors to the crash were a power outage at the time of the event causing all street lights and other light sources to be out. The pedestrian was dressed in a dark colored jacket and walking in the lane of traffic.

Wausau Police Department will be releasing further information on this incident.
