More Details On Kevin Dubrow's Death

    from blabbermouth.net

Original Quiet Riot Bassist Explains How Kevin Dubrow's Body Was Discovered
Bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has released the following statement regarding the passing of the group's lead singer, Kevin DuBrow: "I want to thank everyone who refrained from jumping to conclusions and starting rumors. This has been a very traumatic tragedy to me and because of the fireworks usually associated with Kevin, I was expecting an avalanche of negativity that both me and Frankie [Banali, QUIET RIOT drummer] usually have to deal with. And I'm happy to say that for the most part, everyone did nothing but express good feelings. Unfortunately what negativity that did occur was internal and while inconvenient, I was able to handle. "On Sunday [November 25], while I was working I got a phone call from Kevin's home security company. It was at about 3:15 in the afternoon. I am the only one who gets a call whenever his alarm goes off and usually I go to his house and let the guards in to check things out. However, Kevin had had his front doors replaced a few weeks ago and I did not yet have a key, so I told them to send the guards and if there was a problem I would go there and take care of it. They also told me that Kevin's voice mail was full. That was the first sign of trouble to me. "I got on the phone to Frankie in L.A. and asked if Kevin was with him. He said no and that he hadn't talked to Kevin in about 10 days. He said he thought Kevin was with one of his girlfriends. From there, I started to track her down. I have never met her and only after Frankie gave me her name was I able to find her, which was relativity easy. By now about 10 minutes had passed. She said that Kevin had missed Thanksgiving with her (one of two girls he was supposed to have thanksgiving with. Well, he IS Kevin). She said she had gone to his house and left him many messages without response and that she had a very bad feeling about this. Right then, my other phone rang. I have three phones in my house and little did I know soon all three would be ringing nonstop. I put the phone down on the table with girlfriend #2 still on the line and it was Frankie on the phone. He told me what had happened. I lost all composure at that point and told FB I would call him back. "Now to the other phone where I had the unpleasant task of telling #2 the news. Needless to say she freaked. GF#1 was Lark Williams who was in San Fran at the time. She was worried about Kevin as well and she had called a paramedic friend of hers to go check on Kevin. The guy happened to be very close to his house. With Lark on the phone, the guy went to Kevin's and was looking into windows and told Lark he could see his keys on the counter. Lark told him to break in immediately. It was a very ballsy and good thing she did. The guy broke in (hence the call from the alarm co.) and found Kev. This all happened in about 20 minutes time. From there, police, fire, everybody was called. He was found in bed. I talked with a detective who was there and they hadn't even removed Kevin yet. He said, 'We have found no signs of foul play and are ruling this an accidental death.' "Last I heard from Kevin's brother, there was going to be a service this Sunday in Corona del Mar, Caalifornia. Kevin will be buried next to his father. But then I was told that the coroner was still not done so that was kind of up in the air. I have not heard from them since. "Peter Margolis [director of the upcoming Randy Rhoads documentary film] was one of the first people I called. I had had to tell the news to Kevin's brother as well and I really didn't want to go through that again with others who are important in our lives. He was very kind was immediately saddened and said right off he wouldn't wish this on anybody. I read his statement and can say that he did in fact want to work out the differences between Kevin and himself. "From here, I am not going to point out all the other things to you that people say when an icon dies. "Kevin was what he was and he lived his life as such. "To me, Kevin was my brother for 35 years. And like brothers, we had our differences. But many many times over dinner, we discussed how great it was to be able to sit across from each and laugh about all the terrible things we said and did to each other. He was always there for me, and I was always there for him. "The last time I saw him was on our mutually shared birthday, October 29, He gave me a big hug and a really great present. The best present, though, was the hug. "I will miss him terribly. I pray that those who had issues with him don't take this opportunity to celebrate this. "If you knew Kevin well enough to have a beef with him, then you knew him well enough to know he had a very good side to him as well. "Thank you all for all your kindness. Please remember him for the one thing he wanted to be since he was born: A ROCK STAR."

Van Halen Extends Tour

I got to see Van Halen at the Target Center in Mpls in October. If you are a fan of vintage Van Halen, I recommend seeing them when they come to Wisconsin!

    Paul Dickinson

    from melodicrock.com

DUE TO OVERWHELMING DEMAND VAN HALEN EXTENDS HISTORIC TOUR INTO 2008:
"For more than two hours, the gods delivered." -- Rolling Stone
In the midst of one of the most highly anticipated and successful tours of the year, Van Halen announces that they will extend their historic tour into 2008. Eddie, Alex & Wolfgang Van Halen and David Lee Roth, together for the first time in 24 years, will kick off the New Year by extending their tour into 29 additional cities, kicking off with a January 22 performance at Oklahoma City's Ford Center and running through April 7 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Bradley Center.
The 2007 tour has drawn over 600,000 fans thus far with sold out shows in dozens of cities across America, winning the praise of fans and critics alike. "From the first power chords of "You Really Got Me," the band hit a hard groove that didn't let up for the next two hours," said the New York Daily News.
"[Van Halen] filled the arena with hard rock energy rarely generated since, well, the band's previous forays," noted USA Today. The Hollywood Reporter said: "For one perfect night…Van Halen was nothing short of spectacular."
Tickets for the San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Omaha, New Orleans, Charlottesville, Hershey, and Atlantic City dates will go on sale Saturday December 1st and East Rutherford and New York will go on sale Monday December 3rd and are available at www.livenation.com and Ticketmaster. On sale dates for the rest of the tour will be announced shortly and additional 2008 dates are also expected to be announced soon.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, the band has always been known for their electrifying live shows. From the moment they released their self-titled 1978 debut album, Van Halen shook the foundations of rock, thanks largely to Roth's peerless showmanship, Eddie Van Halen's revolutionary guitar virtuosity and their songwriting abilities. Their music has changed rock and roll forever. Van Halen was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

Quiet Riot Singer Dies

    from blabbermouth.net

Confirmed: QUIET RIOT Singer KEVIN DUBROW Dead At 52 - Nov. 26, 2007
QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has confirmed the passing of the group's singer, Kevin DuBrow, at the age of 52. In an e-mail to Spain's The Metal Circus which had requested a comment from Banali on the rumors of DuBrow's death, the drummer wrote, "I can't even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow." Michael Politz of The Vegas Eye reported earlier today that DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, November 25. According to Politz, DubRow - whom Politz calls "one of my closest friends" - recently celebrated his 52nd birthday in New Orleans "where he ate great food and even caught THE CULT at The House of Blues." Although the band has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has posted the following message on the Randy Rhoads (late QUIET RIOT/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist) web site RandyRhoads.tk "I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family. I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already within hours of this having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will effect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinate info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me. Thank you."

The Most Valuable Music CD...Your Guess?

    from melodicrock.com

EBAY DEMAND FOR GROUP'S MUSIC PUSHES BAND TO REUNITE:
Press Release / Rock music trivia question - which CD garnered the highest sale price on eBay? A rare Beatles CD, a bootleg of Led Zeppelin unreleased tracks? While these might be predictable guesses - the actual winner of the highest selling CD is, Sudden Impact, by the Philadelphia band, Hit The Ground Runnin (HTGR). HTGR originally hit it big with millions of young adults from their guest appearances on the daily dance show, "Dance Party USA", on USA Network. As their reputation and fan base quickly grew, they also enjoyed success in both Canada and Europe. Hit The Ground Runnin (HTGR) might not jump out to you as a household name......but this Philadelphia quintet holds the title as having the most sought after CD, Album and cassette on eBay today according to HeavyHarmonies.com. The group's debut CD "Sudden Impact" has sold on eBay for a record $1950.52, with an average sales price of $838.17 (for a good condition original copy), and it has held the title as the most valuable CD since 2001.
The band was first signed to a Canadian record label, Autograph Records, distributed by BMG, and was followed up by a standing ovation performance at the 20th anniversary of the Monterey Pop Festival in Monterey, California, where music great Janis Joplin was first discovered. The band went on to sign a 5 year, 3 album deal with an international company, The Music Group, working with the legendary producer, Joe Venneri, who also produced Bob Marley and Vanilla Fudge. Because of issues with their management and management's subsequent legal issues, the group eventually was forced to disband, much to the dismay of their loyal fan base.
A few years ago, original band member Paul Piccari and producer Dan McKeown mastered a dream copy of what would have been the group's second CD release, Control Yourself, from previously recorded material, and placed it on the website MP3.com. Within a month, the results were astounding, with the site generating orders for 15,000 CDs in just 6 weeks...topping the sales of every independent label overseas! Distributors, magazines, and fans old and new wanted to know what happened to HTGR and where to find more product by this American group!
After receiving countless offers from different record labels to re-release the “Sudden Impact” CD and requests to license unreleased tracks for compilation CD's overseas......producer Dan McKeown along with the original members Paul Piccari and Blair Rumsey, who created the group's powerful signature vocals, decided it was time to reunite HTGR.
Earlier this year, Piccari and Rumsey - along with Vinnie Martello, vocals and guitars, Adam Feriolia on drums and Kalah Higgenbottom on vocals and keyboards went into the studio and recorded a 14 track masterpiece, “HGR”, which contains new material along with a cover song written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart called “(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone”, originally recorded by The Monkees!
The group is planning a 2008 European tour and has offers for the release of the new album. For the band whose infamous first CD still sells for thousands of dollars, HGTR plans to do it again...and this time, they will definitely Hit The Ground Runnin'!!

Slash's Drug Confessions Shock Bowie

    from blabbermouth.net

World Entertainment News Network reports that guitarist Slash once shocked David Bowie with stories about his narcotic-induced hallucinations.

The former GUNS N' ROSES star was addicted to heroin and cocaine and his mother thought it would be a good idea if the troubled star talked to her friend and former drug addict, Bowie, about his problems.

But Bowie wasn't prepared for Slash's confession, especially when the rocker revealed he saw armies of creatures "gathering in the doorway... holding tiny machine guns and weapons" while high.

In his new autobiography, "Slash", the rocker recalls, "David was engaging and wise in the ways of chemical abuse. He asked me about what I was doing drug-wise and what I was going through emotionally, psychically, and with the band.

"I rambled on for a while, but once I started talking about my little translucent friends, David interrupted me... He'd heard enough."
