GODSMACK Frontman 'Traumatized' By Car Crash
Tuesday, April 17, 2007
from blabbermouth.net
Apr. 17, 2007
GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna's manager has told Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa of BostonHerald.com that the three-car pile-up in Methuen, Massachusetts the other night still has the bruised rocker "shaken up." "He's deeply concerned for the girl who was hurt in this unfortunate accident," said Paul Geary, referring to Lindsay Taylor, 25, of Chelmsford, who remains in serious condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. But, he said, Erna will put in an appearance tomorrow night (Wednesday, April 18) at Tresca for a private, low-key book reception for his memoir, "The Paths We Choose", thrown by family and friends. And on Saturday afternoon, Sully will sign his rags-to-rock 'n' roll riches book at Borders in the Back Bay. Erna crashed his Hummer H3 into the rear of a Toyota Camry on the Route 93 ramp at Route 213 at 7 p.m. Wednesday night (April 11). Taylor, who the Eagle-Tribune reported is in a coma and on life support, was sitting in the back seat of the Camry. Mass. State Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Bousquet said no charges were filed since the accident is "still under investigation." Geary said Erna explained to the staties that his car was the third car in the pile-up. He rear-ended the Toyota after it had rammed into a Honda Odyssey driven by a Londonderry, N.H., woman, according to his manager. "Sully's thankful he got out with a split lip and some aches and pains, but he's traumatized about the girl," Geary said.

Eddie's Back!
from melodicrock.com
EDDIE VAN HALEN EMERGES FROM REHAB TO GO CAR RACING: Eddie Van Halen will be guest of honor at a car racing event this coming weekend. Yes, he is out of rehab. For the conspiracy theorists out there that don't believe Ed did rehab, I believe stays of around 30 days is the normal length of rehab stints these days. From the press release: "Phoenix International Raceway President Bryan R. Sperber has announced that rock superstar Eddie Van Halen will serve as an Honorary Race Official for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 Nascar Nextel Cup Series race at PIR on Saturday, April 21. As an Honorary Race Official, Van Halen will be part of pre-race activities and will join Sperber on the pre-race stage greeting drivers as they are introduced prior to the start of the race. In addition to his duties as an Honorary Race Official, Van Halen will help to unveil a limited edition Fender Stratocaster Guitar as well as a limited edition EVH brand Frankenstein replica guitar at PIR on Friday, April 20. The Fender guitar, with its unique designs, will be presented to the winner of the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500 on Saturday, April 21. The one-of-a-kind PIR Fender Stratocaster Guitar was built by Chris Fleming, Senior Master Builder, in Fender's Custom Shop."

Ozzy Update
Thursday, April 12, 2007
from melodicrock.com
OZZY OSBOURNE SENDS FANS BLACK RAIN: Press Release / "I Don't Wanna Stop." "Not Going Away." "Thank God For The Almighty Dollar." "Civilize The Universe." "Black Rain." "Countdown's Begun." And "Trap Door."...You can tell by looking at many of the song titles on Black Rain-Ozzy Osbourne's first album with new studio material in six years-that the rock legend took a good look at his own life and the world around him. He also salutes his fans-among the most devoted in the world-with such songs as "Here For You" and "Lay Your World On Me." Due out May 22 on Epic Records, Black Rain finds the two-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee as vital, creative and evocative as ever. You also get the clear sense that he's operating at the peak of powers, as a singer and songwriter. Ozzy fans can log onto www.Ozzy.com to hear samples of tracks from the album. Ozzy co-produced the album with Kevin Churko and recorded it with his touring band: Zakk Wylde (guitar), Mike Bordin (drums) and Blasko (bass). Ozzy says that he felt a new freedom while recording the album at his home studio in Los Angeles. The result: songs that are not only hard-hitting but adventurously arranged and sonically fresh. Explains Ozzy, "It's a well-put together album. I think it's evident that it hasn't been just slapped out and put down. I took my time on the album and Zakk [Wylde] plays some amazing stuff as always." Ozzy feels Black Rain is the true follow-up to his classic No More Tears, the 1991 album that also challenged the expectations of what an Ozzy Osbourne album should sound like. Some of the songs on Black Rain are ominous in their emotional tone-they examine a world teeming with greed, war, deception, bad drugs ("11 Silver," about crystal meth) and environmental havoc. Ozzy also zooms in on the overriding sense of fear and dread that define our times-perpetrated, he feels, by news programs that make "entertainment" out of terrible news events. Says Ozzy: "I just thought there's so much bad news, the only way I can release it is to put it in a song." On the other hand, the new track "Civilize The Universe" offers a sense of hope, as Ozzy sings: "I'm alive/Watching better turn to worse/One more time/Try to civilize the universe." Ozzy will support BLACK RAIN with a world tour beginning in Moscow on May 27 which continues through July 6. Then starting July 12 in Seattle, he'll headline the 12th annual Ozzfest tour throughout America www.ozzfest.com The pioneer and trendsetter has pulled the plug on ticket prices in America and given the power back to the fans, calling this summer's Ozzfest "FreeFest." That's right, this year's Ozzfest is entirely free for fans, an unprecedented move for an artist and tour of this stature. Ozzy is being honored in May on VH-1's "Rock Honors" telecast. He will perform three songs on the broadcast including a track from Black Rain. Premiering on Thursday, May 24 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, "VH1 Rock Honors," will be taped at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 12. Ozzy's popularity, creativity and reach are immeasurable, with recent inductions into both the U.K. Music Hall of Fame (as a solo artist and as a member of Black Sabbath) in November 2005 and as a member of Black Sabbath in the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2006. He's won two Grammy Awards and one Emmy Award, and has a star on Hollywood Boulevard's "Walk of Fame." Track Listing: I Don't Wanna Stop, Not Going Away, Thank God For The Almighty Dollar, Civilize The Universe, Black Rain, Countdown's Begun, Trap Door, Here for You, Lay Your World Down on Me, 11 Silver.

Kiss Guitarist Passes Away Over Weekend
Tuesday, April 10, 2007
From melodicrock.com
R.I.P. GUITARIST MARK ST. JOHN: Sad news that I am sure everyone is aware of - former Kiss guitarist Mark St. John died late last week. It happened over my Easter break, so I can only report on this now, with the following report from Billboard.com: "(Billboard) -- Former Kiss guitarist Mark St. John died Thursday from an apparent brain hemorrhage. He was 51. Born Mark Norton in Hollywood, St. John was Kiss' third official guitarist, having replaced Vinnie Vincent -- the substitute for Ace Frehley -- in 1984. By this point, Kiss had done away with its trademark makeup and costumes, but the group was enjoying a career renaissance. The lone Kiss album on which St. John appeared, Animalize, re-established the group as one of the world's top arena metal bands. The album spawned the popular MTV video, Heaven's on Fire (the only Kiss video to feature St. John). St. John's flashy playing reflected the era's Van Halen-influenced rock guitarists, but it certainly helped spark the material on "Animalize," which many fans consider one of Kiss' strongest non-makeup releases. However, right around the time Kiss was to launch a worldwide tour in support of the album, St. John was diagnosed with a form of arthritis called Reiter's Syndrome, which caused his hands and arms to swell, and prevented him from playing guitar. Guitarist Bruce Kulick filled in (St. John did manage to play one full show with the group, and portions of a few others) and eventually replaced St. John as Kiss' permanent guitarist. His medical condition improved after leaving Kiss, and St. John launched a pop/metal outfit, White Tiger, with ex-Black Sabbath singer David Donato. St. John briefly teamed up with original Kiss drummer Peter Criss in a group that didn't release any recordings, and appeared as a guest speaker at Kiss conventions. In 2001, he released an all-instrumental album, Magic Bullet Theory. "I wish to express my sympathy to Mark St. John's family and friends," Kulick said in a statement. "Though Mark was the guitarist I replaced, I respected his talent and contribution to Kiss. May he rest in peace."
