Poison Brawl On Stage!!!
From melodicrock.com
POISON COMMENT ON FRIDAY NIGHT'S BIFFO: An official statement from Poison regarding last weekend's "incident": "Atlanta's still burning...it was striking hot on stage the other night when Poison's show ended in a volatile fight...on stage. Bassist Bobby Dall and singer Bret Michaels went at each last Friday night (August 25) right before the encore, with Bret throwing his mic at Bobby, and Bobby retaliating by slamming his bass into Bret, injuring Bret's knee. This is not the first physical incident between the band members. There have been many over the years, but this is the first onstage since the famous fistfight between Bret and C.C. at the MTV Video Awards in 1991, but that took place after the performance, not during. Even though Poison's current release, The Best Of Poison 20 Years Of Rock, has been on Billboard's Top 200 chart for more than 20 weeks (and is going full steam ahead to be certified gold), and the concerts have attracted huge crowds all across the country, is this the end of Poison? Will the band break up after 20 years? Right now, it's day to day, as their intense summer tour is scheduled to end September 2.

I Love This Kind Of Stuff!!!
Wednesday, August 09, 2006
I like this "behind the scenes" back-stabbing gossip - I think it says a lot about some of our rock and roll idols. It's the kind of stuff that never makes the headlines, but it's interesting, nonetheless. From melodicrock.com
Q&A WITH 80s TOUR ARTISTS: A funny little article grabbed from The Boston Globe. A little Q&A from the artists behind the We Love The 80s Tour (dates below): These '80s hitmakers still offering two tickets to paradise / By Geoff Edgers, Globe Staff. "They're older now, past the glory days on MTV. But these icons of the Rubik's Cube era -- Eddie Money, Rick Springfield, Mike Reno (of Loverboy), and Patty Smyth (of Scandal) -- haven't laid down their microphones. Thursday at the Bank of America Pavilion they'll be cranking out all the hits, including Two Tickets to Paradise, Jessie's Girl, The Warrior and Working for the Weekend. We asked the tour's stars to help us go behind the music.
Patty Smyth - Biggest jerk: Daryl Hall. We toured with him for a month and he never said anything to us. Then you see the guy 20 years later and he's still complaining about the fact he couldn't go grocery shopping in the '80s. What a joke. Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth? I could see David Lee Roth was a bit of a pain. And I think Eddie [Van Halen] was upset because he had to do cover songs all the time. I just think David Lee Roth was a cooler kind of guy on stage. Groupies: If you're a guy, all you had to do was drive a truck for a band and you got [action]. It was just disgusting. So I would bring my girlfriends on the road with me so there was another chick there who wasn't a [floozy]. Favorite album (not your own): "Fresh," Sly and the Family Stone. That changed the whole sound of music. It's very unfair to ask what your favorite record is. If you asked me when I was 11, my favorite was `` Led Zeppelin II. "
Eddie Money - Biggest jerk: Elvis Costello. He's a [expletive expletive]. [Expletive] is in the [Rock and Roll] Hall of Fame and I'm not. Also this guy [Don] Barnes, the singer in 38 Special. For some strange reason his wife said I was hitting on her. I would never hit on somebody's old lady. Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth? David Lee Roth. You know, he's had a lot of troubles and an ego bigger than a [expletive] house. I also feel sorry for the guy. Maybe I like David Lee Roth because he reminds me of myself. Groupies: You know what, there's always a lot of good-looking women who come to the shows. I've got my weight down. But I've got a beautiful wife and I'm pretty monogamous. Cheating on my wife would be like doing cocaine. Favorite album (not your own): "Then Play On," Fleetwood Mac. Peter Green was such a great guitar player and the band was just smoking. I like anything that Fleetwood Mac did before they got the chicks in the band.
Rick Springfield - Biggest jerk: No one's ever treated me bad. I met DJs who have tried to be Howard Stern wanna be's but I don't know their names. Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth? Sammy's a friend. I've always loved his voice. And I've never liked David's voice but I always thought he was a great foil for Eddie's playing. But I don't think he could have made those records that Sammy made. Groupies: I probably would still be a virgin if I had't gotten into music. Playing in a band was a big aphrodisiac. Favorite album (not your own): "Revolver," the Beatles. I remember the first time I heard ``Eleanor Rigby" on the radio. I was in my brother's room and I hated high school and this song came on and I just stood there and I was just floored.
Mike Reno - Biggest jerk: We were doing a show together and I was just sitting in the van and Paul Rodgers came up to me and said, "Hey mate, get out of this van, it's mine." I said,"I'm just sitting here watching the show." He said, "Not anymore you're not." Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth? If you're talking about for Van Halen, it's David Lee Roth. He was Diamond Dave. If you're talking about as a person, it's Sammy. Sammy's just a great guy. Groupies: I've got one groupie who comes to every show we do within a 1,000-mile radius and she actually takes pictures. She also stepped up to bat when we were trying to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. She phoned in and bought my red leather pants for two grand. Favorite album (not your own): "Rides Again," James Gang. I had my little ``shaggin' wagon" van that I bought, all carpeted and stereo speakers and curtains. It was a '65 Ford Econoline. It was all about just having a girlfriend and `Funk 49' on your 8-track, baby."
And the remaining tour dates are: Thursday, August 10th: Bank of America Pavilion, Boston Saturday, August 12th: North Folk Theatre Long Island, NY Thursday, August 17th: Cardinal Stadium Louisville Friday, August 18th: City Lights Pavilion (Mixfest), Denver Friday, September 22nd, Resorts Atlantic City, Atlantic City, NJ Saturday, August 26th: Tulalip Amphitheater, Seattle Saturday, September 23rd: Ruth Eckered Hall, Clearwater, FL Sunday, September 24th: Hard Rock Hollywood, FL Check out wearethe80s.com for more details.

Rock News: The Knack, and The Eagles
from melodicrock.com
SINGER OF THE KNACK HAS BRAIN SURGERY. TOUR DATES CANCELLED:Doug Fieger, singer of THE KNACK, underwent brain surgery on August 3rd in Los Angeles. The band, which currently includes former MR. BIG drummer Pat Torpey, has called off all remaining tour dates on the band's schedule. The following is the official press release from Luck Media & Marketing, Inc. Doug Fieger, lead singer of The Knack, underwent surgery today at Cedars Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles for removal of two brain tumors. According to Dr. John Yu, the surgery was successful and Fieger is expected to have a full recovery.
EAGLES INCHING TOWARD FIRST NEW ALBUM SINCE 1979:From Billboard.com: Gary Graff, Detroit / The Eagles hope to take flight with a new album -- sooner rather than later, according to guitarist Joe Walsh. "I would say the first half of next year we should be able to put out a new Eagles album," he tells Billboard.com, adding with a laugh that "it'll be nice to have some new songs to play, 'cause we're sick of the old ones!" The Eagles have been talking about a new studio album, their first since 1979's The Long Run, since launching the tongue-in-cheek series of Farewell tours in 2003. The recording sessions so far, according to Walsh, have yielded "pretty much basic tracks for people to take and write words to. We've got a bunch of stuff floating around." But after touring Europe earlier in the summer, Walsh says there's a new resolve to start turning those ideas into finished songs. "We decided we better get some new product out, some new songs," he says. "We could rest on our laurels and play our catalog forever, but we're not a nostalgia band. We've got another record in us. We don't have a mean ol' record company to tell us we're done anymore, so we're taking too long. We really need to just police ourselves and get in there and get it finished and put it out." Two new songs, Walsh's "One Day at a Time" and Glenn Frey's "No More Cloudy Days," appeared on last year's live DVD Farewell 1 Tour -- Live From Melbourne, which the band released via its own Eagles Recording Co. imprint. First up for Walsh, however, is his first tour with the James Gang in 35 years. As previously reported, the outing begins Aug. 10 in Sturgis, N.D. Walsh won't rule out the possibility of recording new music with the trio too, but he quickly adds, "I really don't know what to expect. I just don't see a whole lot of improvising rock'n'roll bands out there now, so I think maybe there's a little window here for a spontaneous group like us. I'm excited to see where it goes."

The Official Bat Out Of Hell 3 Press Release
from melodicrock.com
Press Release / Meat Loaf, one of the singular, game-changing performers in the annals of American rock, will return to unleash the long-awaited third installment in the most successful rock album series of all time, Bat Out of Hell III, this coming fall. The album, released on Virgin Records in North America, delivers to a new generation of listeners - and to his many millions of longtime followers worldwide - the still-unique, still-audacious, and still-unequalled Meat Loaf fusion of baroque, operatic emotion, brilliant, larger-than-life storytelling, jaw-dropping theatricality and raw rock-and-roll electricity. The greatest epic saga in rock history opens its new chapter on October 31, 2006, with album release on Virgin Records in North America, and Universal Records outside of North America. "Meat Loaf holds such a unique place in pop culture," Virgin Records Chairman/CEO Jason Flom commented. "His name, voice and artwork have come to symbolize great American pop/rock music. We are excited to be involved with Meat Loaf and Bat Out of Hell III because good things always come in threes - and the only thing better than Bat Out of Hell is Bat Out of Hell II, and the only thing better than Bat Out of Hell II is Bat Out of Hell III!" The album was produced by hit-maker Desmond Child (Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Cher) with additional vocal arrangements by Todd Rundgren (producer of the first Bat out of Hell). "Bat Out of Hell albums are really renegade records; when they come out they are never like anything else," observed album producer Child. "(In this project), Meat Loaf saw a door open to a new style that is the future of Bat Out of Hell. He wears all of his emotions on the outside." Meat Loaf agreed: "I took all the songs a little more personal; I became more internal on this record, (and) there were less character studies." Seven songs on the album were written by Jim Steinman, producer of Bat Out of Hell II, and principal songwriter of the first two albums in the trilogy. His involvement follows the resolution of a lawsuit over the Bat out of Hell trademark between the longtime friends and collaborators Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. The two came to an amicable agreement that ensured that Jim Steinman's music would be a continuing part of the Bat out of Hell legacy. Bat Out of Hell III also includes songs by Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue), John 5 (Marilyn Manson), and Marti Frederiksen (a contributing Aerosmith songwriter). Nikki Sixx confirmed that the boundary-busting creative spirit of the first two albums has been maintained on this third episode of Bat Out of Hell. "We were not worrying about the format of the songs-just making a great piece of music," he said. Added John 5: "The world knows that's he's an amazing talent. He's back and he wants to kick ass-He's living those lyrics." Co-starring vocal and instrumental performers on the album include Steve Vai, on the Gothic thriller Land of the Pigs; the legendary Brian May of Queen, on a revival of Steinman's song Bad For Good; and Marion Raven, in her U.S. introduction. Raven is featured on Meat Loaf's interpretation of the Jim Steinman-penned immortal, It's All Coming Back to Me Now, and is the first female recording artist since Cher to duet with Meat Loaf. He enthused: "Marion's perfect for the song because she's a real personality." Added Child: "She's mystical, she's dark; she's icy but she's warm; she's fun but she's also really deep. She was meant to do it."Packed out with such newly-written hits as Blind as a Bat and The Monster is Loose, Bat Out of Hell III extends the Meat Loaf saga into an epic trilogy, taking its place as a classic among classics. The release of Bat Out of Hell III marks the triumphant return of a franchise that is unique in the rock era, said Meat Loaf manager and CEO of 10th Street Entertainment, Allen Kovac. "It's a well-thought out, well-crafted record, made at the high standard that a Bat Out of Hell album has to be." The album was mixed by Grammy-winning studio engineer Greg Collins (U2). The two previous albums in the series have sold an estimated 45 million copies to date around the world. Bat Out of Hell, the immortal and genre-transforming original, released in 1977, with songs by Jim Steinman and production by Todd Rundgren, ran for an extraordinary 82 weeks on the Billboard album chart and has sold in excess of 14 million copies in the U.S. alone. It included the Meat Loaf/Jim Steinman signature hits Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth, and the show-stopping Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. The second installment, Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, released in 1993, included the classic international chart-topper I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That), and earned Meat Loaf a Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Solo Performance. Meat Loaf has a total of 24 multi-platinum, platinum and gold RIAA awards. Meat Loaf has appeared in the movies The Rocky Horror Picture Show (as Eddie); Roadie; Fight Club; Wayne's World; Out of Bounds; The Squeeze; and Leap of Faith, among a total of nearly 60 television and film roles. At the outset of his performing career, he also appeared onstage in Hair in Los Angeles, Detroit and on Broadway.
