Wisconsin Rapids Man Accused of Trying to Kill a Relative Will Go to Trial

Thursday, May 9th, 2024 -- 11:01 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wisconsin Rapids man accused of trying to kill a relative will go to trial after being found not competent late last year.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Tommy Ehrisman was in court on Wednesday where both his representatives and the state agreed that the case is ready to move to trial. He’s accused of trying to smother the woman with a pillow as she was sleeping.

When the woman woke up, Ehrisman stopped and told her to call the police. He later admitted that he had been planning the attack for days, and had been having thoughts of self-harm.

The 66-year-old was found not competent for trial in November of 2023, though both sides noted he would likely become competent within the next year. Ehrisman has pled not guilty due to mental disease or defect. No future court action, including potential trial dates, has been set.
